The following is a list of the different websites, programs, and devices we use in orchestra.
Tuners Devices that help students tune their strings. It can also be used during practice to check that their fingers are in the correct places. CHROMATIC tuners are what the students need. They will work for any instrument and will evaluate all notes. Guitar tuners are often only show the guitar strings, which is not helpful for orchestra students.
Metronomes These devices help students with their rhythms and tempos. Simple ones just mark the beat with a sound and sometimes a light. Fancier models can mark different time signatures or subdivide.
SmartMusic An internet based program that allows students to have instant feedback. It can be run on any tablet, laptop, or desktop that uses chrome. Most of our playing tests are done through SmartMusic. Click the link for information about how to log on, record at home, and using the different features when practicing.
Remind An easy method for the teacher and students to communicate through texting. Phone numbers are kept anonymous. Parents can sign up, but it is primarily for the students.
Canvas Assignments and grades will be organized through Canvas. Assignments and grades will sync to Zangle, but if you want information about assignments, you will need to access Canvas.
- Apps for your phone or tablet. There are many free apps. Experiment until you find one you like. The best apps read notes (evaluate what you play) and plays them (gives an audible sound that you can match).
